Set up the remote
Mac only, about five minutes: plug in the receiver, install one helper, allow one permission.
You need: A Mac running Stream Organizer Pro, the G20S Pro remote with its HAOBO USB receiver, and your Mac password.
The remote is optional. Your phone does everything; the remote is for when you’d rather press a button than unlock a phone. It works on a Mac today. [TBD: Windows remote support]
Plug in the receiver
Plug the remote’s little USB receiver into the Mac. The app knows the G20S Pro by that HAOBO receiver, so other G20S models, and a G20S Pro with a different receiver, aren’t supported. [TBD: where to get the remote]
Install the remote helper
Click the Stream Organizer Pro icon in the menu bar and choose Install remote helper…. Your Mac asks for your password: the helper runs in the background so the remote’s buttons go to the wall and not to whatever app is in front.
Allow Input Monitoring
The app then shows One more step: allow Input Monitoring. Click Open Input Monitoring. In that list, click +, press ⌘⇧G, then type or paste this path and press Return:
/ Library/ PrivilegedHelperTools/ com. streamorganizer. remote-helper
Turn the helper on. Until then the remote is blocked. You’ll do this again after each update to the helper.
Try the buttons
- Arrows bring up a highlight on the game you’re listening to, then move it from tile to tile.
- OK gives the highlighted game the sound and mutes the rest.
- Hold OK on a highlighted game to move it. The highlight turns orange; arrow to another tile and press OK, and the two games trade places. Choose an empty tile instead and the game moves there. Back leaves everything where it was.
- Play/Pause on a highlighted game takes over its playback. Then:
- Play/Pause pauses and plays it.
- Rewind and Fast-forward skip back or ahead 15 seconds (10 on ESPN and MLB.tv). Hold Fast-forward to jump back to live.
- Back lets go of the game.
- Home opens the list of games and channels. Up and down move through it, and Page up and Page down jump five at a time; left and right switch between Games and Channels. Press OK on one, arrow to a tile, and press OK to put it there.
- Volume and Mute change the Mac’s own volume. If the sound goes to the TV over HDMI, use the TV’s remote for volume.
Skipping works on YouTube TV, YouTube, ESPN and MLB.tv, and jumping to live on YouTube TV, YouTube and MLB.tv. Twitch is live only, so it can’t skip.
In the drawing, every button that does something stands up from the shell. The power button, the pointer button, the number keys, Delete and the menu button don’t do anything in Stream Organizer Pro, so they’re drawn sunk into it. The microphone button isn’t used either, but pressing it puts a short notice on the wall and cancels whatever the remote was doing, such as a highlight or a game you’d taken over.
If it doesn’t work
- The remote does nothing.
- Plug the receiver straight into the Mac rather than a hub, and check that the remote helper is turned on under Privacy & Security, then Input Monitoring (on older macOS, Security & Privacy, then the Privacy tab, then Input Monitoring).
- The remote stopped working after an update.
- Each helper install or update needs Input Monitoring turned on again. Repeat Allow Input Monitoring.
- The volume buttons do nothing.
- They change the Mac's own volume, and a Mac can't change the volume of sound it sends to a TV over HDMI. Use the TV's own remote for volume.
